Between 2020 and 2025, Karachi has witnessed the collapse of more than a dozen buildings, primarily due to structural weaknesses, poor maintenance, and illegal or substandard construction practices. Many of these buildings were either old and dilapidated or had been constructed without proper oversight or adherence to safety regulations. In several cases, residents had been warned about the dangerous conditions but continued to live there due to lack of affordable housing alternatives.
These incidents have led to significant loss of life and property, raising serious concerns about urban planning, building safety standards, and the enforcement of construction laws in the city. The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA), and other relevant authorities are taking action against illegal constructions and to conduct thorough inspections of aging structures.
